We celebrated the 4th of July in South Dakota at Mount Rushmore. We drove up there to see the fireworks (that we heard we amazing). However, there were no fireworks to be seen. We got to Mount Rushmore about 6 hours before the show was to start to get some good seats. The monument was awesome to see- it was great just being there. We enjoyed the music and food while we waited, but less than an hour before the fireworks were to start, fog rolled in and never left. So, we heard the fireworks go off, but all we got to see was different colors of fog. Bummer! We still had a great weekend in South Dakota, despite our initial disappointment over the fireworks. We drove through Custer State Park, which was beautiful and had lots of wildlife. We also went to Bear Country, USA- which was really cool. There was also lots of wildlife to look at, especially lots of bears. These guys just walked around all over the road- up to the cars and everything. We let Levi in the front seat to check them out, which he was very excited about (hey- you can only drive up to 10 mph in the park anyway)! Then we stopped to walk around and check out the baby animals (there are baby bears up in the tree in the picture- they were very cute!). We also paddled around Canyon Lake on a paddle boat Saturday afternoon before heading home on Sunday. All in all, it was a good 4th. Matt and I went home and watched last year's Mount Rushmore fireworks on YouTube to make up for the poor performance while we were there. We'll just have to visit again sometime!
